Intermediate Datacenter/Customer Support Technician

Provision Data is looking to grow and needs an intermediate level IT professional to help us do that!  The successful candidate will work with the team to take care of our managed service customers and manage many aspects of the Datacenter infrastructure.  The candidate should be keen to learn enterprise technologies and enjoy a variety in their work as well as have great people skills.

Job Description

• Datacenter Technical Duties
  • Build, test, and deploy new technologies and equipment
  • Manage Backup Infrastructure
  • Maintain Documentation and assist in audits
  • Respond to after-hours events when on call
  • Other duties as assigned
• Provide Customer Support
  • Monitor the support ticket system, emails and incoming phone calls and respond to customers with assistance
  • Provide MSP support remotely or onsite at customer locations
  • Design, build and deploy office networks including servers, workstations, switching and routing
  • Troubleshoot Windows server and workstation related issues

Requirements

• Must be comfortable with Mac/Windows/iPhone/Android OS’s
• Great people skills, above average patience
• Excellent written and verbal communications
• Hands on knowledge of basic Linux administration and troubleshooting
• Hands-on in-depth knowledge of Windows Server configuration and administration including AD, RDP & GPOs
• Have knowledge of Ethernet and TCP/IP protocols, and be able to troubleshoot connectivity issues
• Have knowledge of routers, switches, network concepts including VLAN, STP, LACP, Distributed LACP
• Vehicle and valid BC Driver’s License
• Will require RCMP record check and drivers abstract
• Available for 24/7 on call emergency duty on rotation (after probation period)
• Post-secondary certificate or diploma in information systems or industry certification and 3-5 years related industry experience

• Familiarity with Meraki, UNIFI, ARUBA equipment and management interfaces
• Virtualization Administration in VMWare
• MS Exchange/MS365 Administration

The Landmark area lost power at 1:13pm today. 100% of Provision Data Center UPS’s successfully held the power and all systems remained functional.

The generators began their warmup cycle as expected but were not required as approximately 10 seconds after the power was lost, the Fortis transfer switch changed the power feed for power supplied Provision’s Datacenters over to Fortis’ redundant power link to another substation in Kelowna.

All systems are operational and functioning as expected!

Provision Data Systems Inc Achieves AT 101 SOC 2 Type 2 Certification

 

Kelowna, BC – Provision Data Systems Inc (PDSI) is pleased to announce it has completed the year long process to obtain the Certification AT 101 SOC 2 Type 2 for its datacenter and managed services operations.

“As our customer’s requirements grow and change, we are committed to ensuring our platforms meet or exceed industry standards,” Ian McLaughlin, PDSI’s Chief Security Officer (CSO). “The SOC 2 Type 2 opens the way for more opportunities with governments and public companies, allowing us to expand our services to new markets.”

The SOC 2 certification is designed for advanced service providers. These can include managed service providers (MSPs), data centers, cloud computing vendors, and SaaS companies. This certification reflects the commitment to the quality and integrity of PDSI’s products and processes and speaks to the security and availability of the organizations products and infrastructure.

“This certification was a major undertaking for us,” said Ian McLaughlin, PDSI’s Chief Security Officer (CSO). “Today, more than ever, security and availability are fundamentals that our customers need and expect. The SOC 2 Type 2 solidifies our commitment and gives our customers extra confidence in our operations.”

Provision Data underwent one of the more stringent and complex audit programs available on an international level. The AT 101 SOC 2 Type 2 audit reviewed both the Security and Availability Trust Service Criteria. PDSI selected Ascend Audit & Advisory, Inc. to perform the audit.

“With the advent of the SOC 2 standard, Provision Data was required to undergo two forms of testing for each scoped directive,” said Daniel Geiger, Partner, Ascend Audit & Advisory, Inc. “They were also required to successfully demonstrate that testing performed was repeatable for the entire audit period under the new standard, and management was required to formally assert that the findings and information supplied to the auditor were true and accurate.”

Datacenter and Networking Support Specialist

Kelowna continues to be a destination for high tech serivces with continued growth in the datacenter industry.  Just six months after the merger with long-time competitor Dargal Solutions, Provision Data Systems Inc. has acquired 4500 square feet of new datacentre space in the Landmark Technology Campus.  The locally-owned operation has been consistantly growing over the last 13 years, and the new facility will provide them with the capacity to meet the increased demand for colocation, cloud and Disaster Recovery services.

“We were operating at near full capacity,” remarked Jeremy Fichtner, Provision’s CEO.  “This space will allow us to continue to grow and provide services to clients that need stable, reliable infrastructure for their data.  Coastal companies especially are looking for disater recovery locations that can keep their data safe if any catastrophe hits.  Kelowna is a natural choice.”

Uptime is key in the datacentre business which means investing in redundant infrastructure.  The new facility has two completely redundant power systems which are supplied from three generators in case of a power outage.  Multiple cooling systems provide consistent, reliable cooling for today’s high density servers and provide fault tolerance to keep mission critical services from overheating.

Security features include video surveillance systems, biometric access controls and interlocked secure entry systems.

The new space is currently undergoing construction and Provision Data Systems is targeting early September, 2016 for activation of the new facility.  Inquiries are currently welcome for colocation in the new or existing datacentres.

What is the difference between ProvisionMail Premium, ProvisionMail, and Provision Data Email?

• ProvisionMail Premium is our full-featured collaborative email, with mobile synchronization, calendars, and contacts.
• ProvisionMail uses the same mail software but does not include the premium features and has smaller storage limits.
• Provision Data Email is our current legacy Modus mail system.

Can I upgrade only some of our existing Provision Data email accounts to premium?

Yes! You can upgrade specific accounts, but the group feature will be limited unless the rest of active accounts are upgraded. In order to upgrade an existing email service to premium, will need to migrate the entire domain to our new ProvisionMail server. This will take some and will be scheduled with our technical staff to minimize any disruption to your

Do I need to have 5 accounts?

Customers currently with Provision Data Email can upgrade less than 5 accounts but at the $4/month add-on rate.

Is my email backed up?

Yes! Your email is backed up nightly. We store up to 7 days history.

Can we have a shared address book or calendar?

Yes! You can setup a shared calendar or contact list to everyone in your domain or just a subgroup. You can specify read-only or full read-write. Every Premium user can share their contacts or address book. Setting up a separate company address book or calendar requires an extra Premium user account ( 1 premium user account can provide 1 Shared calendar and 1 Shared address book)

Are my Apple iPad and iPhone supported?

Yes! ActiveSync ™ makes it easy to connect your apple mobile products.

Are my Android Devices Supported?

Yes! ActiveSync™ makes it easy to connect your android v2 or higher products.
